SEE:
Sight Effectiveness Enhancement

Background
Increase the pilot/driver situation awareness by a reliable enhanced vision system. The project focus on the study (and building) of an optronic sensor system dedicated to the complex enhanced vision task:

  • better perception in fog/night
  • attention getting (vulnerable user / runway intrusion/lateral positioning). For automotive application, simulation is focused on hazardous scenarios validated by real measurements. For aircraft application, only simulation is used.

    Projects objectives

  • Development of a simulation tool capable of simulating a wide range of visibility conditions
  • Modeling of scenario, atmosphere for different kinds of weather conditions, SWIR and LWIR sensors, 3D database for aircraft and car simulation
  • Implementation on simulation platforms
  • Validation of the feasibility of full simulation evaluation

    Achievements
The general achievements of OKTAL-SE in this project are the modeling of 3D databases and environment:

  • Modeling of the 3D database made by OKTAL-SE
  • Use of OKTAL-SE software tools (SE-AGETIM, SE-PHYSICAL-MODELER, SE-CLASSIFICATION, SE-RAY-IR, SE-FAST-IR)

More precisely, the creation of landscape :

  • for aircraft simulation (Blagnac airport with the runways, taxiways, buildings, edge lights, threshold lights, vasi lights, …)
  • for driving simulation (generic 3D database with roads, trees, houses, …)
  • 3D objects have been created (planes, cars, obstacles, …)

In the driving simulation area, scenarios have been created to be compatible with simulation testing and real experiments:

  • predefined trajectories are created for the SEE driver and the moving objects (cars, motorbikes, …)
  • 7 scenarios prepared for bad weather conditions
  • purpose : create a set of movies for the automotive evaluation
  • simulation : "man not in the loop"
