Generation of 3D terrain databases

Background
The performance evaluation of intelligent weapons is realized by real tests and/or by simulations. These simulations integrate physical characteristics of synthetic environments because the behaviour of intelligent systems, based on sensors, depends on physics. These simulations can be similar to real tests to validate models of DRI feature (detection, recognition and Identification) ; they can also simulate real tests, unrealizable for financial, space or security gaps.

The mission of the ETBS (Technical Centre of Bourges of the French DGA), one of the key-actor of the French expertise, simulation and pyrotechnical tests in aeroterrestrial fights areas, is to supply technical expertise and tests in the following domains: missiles, nuclear defence weapons, terrestrial systems techniques.

In order to fulfil its expertise, the ETBS owns a synthetic environment called CHORALE, which simulates physical influences of Optronic, Acoustic and Radar, and also a numerical model of ETBS Battlefield. Both have been developed by OKTAL-SE years ago. In the present project called “conception, realization and integration of numerical models of operational grounds in CHORALE”, OKTAL-SE has been selected by the ETBS to implement the conception, the realisation, the installation and the integration in CHORALE tool of the numerical model of ETBS ground and of three specific regions, covering scenarios of operational use of weapon systems in aeroterrestrial battlefields. The four requested grounds are developed with SE-AGETIM product, which is the SE-Workbench workshop of grounds modelling. It actually enables to adapt relief, materials, infrastructures in the numerized ground based on georeferenced data.

Projects objectives
Through this project, the goal is to supply new models of battlefields enabling the modification and the regeneration by the user itself. Conception requirements deal with:

  • Compatibility with CHORALE synthetic environment
  • Priority given to physical realism: numeric grounds have to be defined from visible to LWIR spectrum
  • Evolutivity enabled by SE-AGETIM (regenerability of databases)
