CHORALE:
The infrared battlefield simulation suite
|
Background The infrared domain is essential in the aeronautic and defence areas, where most of the systems are composed by infrared sensors. In this context, the development of an efficient infrared simulation tool is really useful to test and validate models of new aeronautic or defence systems. Since 1994 and the beginning of the ONDE project (numeric tool of environment description), OKTAL-SE is used to work with the French DGA in the frame of infrared simulation. The CHORALE project (Optronic, radar and acoustic simulated Battlefield), started in 2000, formed a new step in the partnership between the French DGA and OKTAL-SE in the development of an more and more realist simulation tool in the infrared domain (the acoustic domain has been elaborated since 2003). Based on the requirement of both real time and realism, OKTAL-SE developed its infrared simulation software SE-Workbench-IR and SE-Workbench-EM in parallel to the development of the CHORALE project.
